Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu is renowned for its rich heritage of living temples, with a particular emphasis on those dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the three principal deities in the Hindu holy trinity known as the ‘Trimurti.’ Our journey takes us to the most prominent temples and ashrams in this captivating state, allowing us to immerse ourselves in its spiritual and cultural treasures.

Tamil Nadu

Our itinerary includes a visit to the Siva Nataraja temple, where Lord Shiva is depicted as the cosmic dancer, a symbol recognized and revered worldwide. We explore the magnificent and expansive living temple of Sri Meenakshi Amman in Madurai. Here, a captivating ritual unfolds every night as the Meenakshi, the enchanting fish-eyed goddess, is ceremoniously carried to the sanctum sanctorum of Lord Siva.
We will also have the privilege of visiting the ashram of Sri Ramana Maharshi, one of the most significant Indian sages of the past five centuries. His ashram is nestled at the base of Mount Arunachala, the sacred mountain of Tamil Nadu, providing a serene setting for introspection and spiritual exploration.
Lastly, our journey takes us to Rameswaram, one of the twelve sacred Shiva temples situated at the very point where India meets Sri Lanka. Here, you will have the unique opportunity to participate in the timeless bathing ritual within the Jyotirlinga Siva temple, a profound and sacred experience.

Maharashtra

Maharashtra is truly a land of marvels, and our journey takes us to some of its most captivating destinations. Our tour begins with a visit to Shirdi, a place deeply revered for being the home of the modern-day holy saint, Sai Baba. Sai Baba’s image is omnipresent across India, and Shirdi is a testament to the profound devotion and worship dedicated to this remarkable figure. It’s challenging to put Shirdi’s essence into words, but if you can envision a small city entirely devoted to the veneration of one individual, you’re picturing Shirdi.

Maharashtra

Our exploration continues with a striking contrast as we venture to the Ajanta and Ellora caves, both designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These ancient caves date back to a period spanning from the second century BCE to the 6th century CE. Within their depths, you’ll find some of the most breathtaking and exceptionally preserved Buddhist, Jain, and Hindu shrines, statuary, and murals anywhere in the world. The historical and artistic significance of these cave complexes is truly awe-inspiring.

Our journey then takes us to Nasik, one of the four sacred sites that host the legendary Kumbha Mela every twelve years. Nasik also boasts two of the twelve jyotirlinga Siva temples, further enriching its spiritual heritage. Additionally, we explore Rama’s Kund, a destination that has drawn millions of Indian pilgrims throughout the centuries. Maharashtra’s diverse tapestry of spiritual and cultural wonders awaits us on this remarkable journey.

My first experience in India was with one of Yoga Quest Tours. Everything was organised impeccably by their experts, and I felt completely at ease and was able to enjoy a spiritual pilgrimage. The highlight was the regular darshans at temples which were rarely visited by Westerners. These encounters proved transformative in bringing my yoga studies alive. I have since taken two more tours with the YQT and have no hesitation in recommending them.

I’ve been to India twice now on tours with Yoga Quest Tours. We visited many different places, many sacred sites and out-of-the-way places. Our bus was new and extremely clean and comfortable. The hotel accommodations were wonderful, lovely hotels in extraordinary settings. I always felt completely taken care of. Yusuf paid attention to every detail and went out of his way to make sure we were always safe, and comfortable and had what we needed. The team genuinely cared for each one of us and worked very hard for our welfare.
